Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg & Pediatrics position at an acute care facility in North Dakota, requiring BLS and PALS certifications with at least 1 year of experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg and Pediatrics unit with 17 beds (14 inpatient, 3 observation)
- Patient population includes adult and pediatric patients with common diagnoses such as UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, and COPD
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights
- Nurse aides available: 2 on day shifts (ratio 2:15) and 1 on night shifts
- Telemetry is managed by ICU monitors who read strips; Med/Surg Peds nurses apply telemetry to patients
- Occasional BiPap use managed primarily by Respiratory Therapy; no vents on this unit
- Pediatrician is on-call (not in-house) for pediatric patients; peds are not managed by a hospitalist
- Charge nurse is present each shift and takes a patient assignment
- RNs are not required to titrate drips; common infusions include electrolytes, antihypertensives, and diuretics
- MEDITECH EMR is used on this unit
- 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7a–7p / 7p–7a)
- Self-scheduling available
- Weekends required as needed
- No holiday coverage requirement
- Floating to ED or ICU for 1:1 assignments as needed; travelers are first to float
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- A driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; those previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
Additional Information
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift, or one day and one night shift if additional orientation is needed
- Fit testing is required for all clinicians; those with facial hair must pass either the primary or secondary fit test (3M Aura 1860 or 3M 1870+) — failure to pass without facial hair removal may result in contract cancellation
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
- Successful candidates on this unit tend to demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and a proactive approach to asking questions when uncertain
