  • Patient population includes adult and pediatric patients with common diagnoses such as UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, and COPD
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights
  • Nurse aides available: 2 on day shifts (ratio 2:15) and 1 on night shifts
  • Telemetry is managed by ICU monitors who read strips; Med/Surg Peds nurses apply telemetry to patients
  • Occasional BiPap use managed primarily by Respiratory Therapy; no vents on this unit
  • Pediatrician is on-call (not in-house) for pediatric patients; peds are not managed by a hospitalist
  • Charge nurse is present each shift and takes a patient assignment
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips; common infusions include electrolytes, antihypertensives, and diuretics
  • MEDITECH EMR is used on this unit
  • 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7a–7p / 7p–7a)

  • Weekends required as needed
  • No holiday coverage requirement
  • Floating to ED or ICU for 1:1 assignments as needed; travelers are first to float
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • A driver's license is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; those previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered

Additional Information

  • Scrub color requirement: navy blue
  • Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift, or one day and one night shift if additional orientation is needed
  • Fit testing is required for all clinicians; those with facial hair must pass either the primary or secondary fit test (3M Aura 1860 or 3M 1870+) — failure to pass without facial hair removal may result in contract cancellation
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
  • Successful candidates on this unit tend to demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and a proactive approach to asking questions when uncertain
