Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a night shift travel assignment requiring a minimum of 2-3 years of OR experience and prior travel experience in an acute care setting.
Details
- Acute care hospital OR setting with 14 suites averaging 28 cases per day plus add-on cases
- Common case types include neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, and ENT — no open heart; vascular not currently performed
- 1:1 patient ratio in the OR
- Night shift: Sunday through Thursday, 11p–7a (8-hour shifts)
- Charge RN coverage available 7a–7p; traveler will be the sole RN on unit during night shift hours and is expected to lead and post cases
- OR techs are on staff and assist with room turnover (no aides or housekeeping on unit)
- No floating required
- One weeknight on-call shift required per week (7p–7a); one weekend day on-call per month (7a–7p)
- Call response time of 20 minutes required; candidates on call who live more than 20 minutes away may be required to remain on-site
- Scrubs are provided
- No holiday coverage required
- EMR: Epic
- RT is in-house 24/7 and manages vent-established patients brought to the OR and in the PACU
- Pharmacy is available 24/7 with Omnicell
- Telemetry strip interpretation not required of RN; anesthesia handles tele monitoring
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA), ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2–3 years of OR nursing experience required
- 2–3 prior travel assignments required
- Ortho and/or neuro experience preferred
- Scrub experience is a plus but not required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
- Previous permanent employment at this facility requires a 2-year break before returning as a traveler
- Candidates who previously traveled within the WVU system for a cumulative period of one year must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
Additional Information
- Traveler will serve as the sole RN during night shift hours, responsible for charge duties and posting cases
- 3-shift unit orientation provided
- No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
- All candidates are required to interview directly with a unit manager
- A current skills checklist (completed within the past year) is required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that perm facility)
- Any background history that may appear on a background check must be disclosed upfront
- First-time travelers are not ideal for this role given the independent nature of the night shift and the requirement for prior travel experience
