Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience, with night shift availability and cardiac telemetry skills.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, Aortic Stenosis/Regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis, Endocarditis, Cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, Vasculitis, Carotid Stenosis, and Venous Stasis
- Special procedures include CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), VATS, Carotid Endarterectomy, FEM-POP Bypass, Amputations, post-cath, post-DCCV, post-electrophysiology procedures, and Pacemaker placements
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical stepdown, 1:5–6 for lower acuity
- Night shift only, 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4 weekends required per 4-week period (flexible)
- Floating follows unit rotation — travelers are not first to float
- Special equipment includes Arterial Lines, Doppler, Bladder Scanner, EKG, Femoral Sheaths, TR Band, Fem-Stop, Chest Tubes, and Epicardial Pacing Wires
- EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication); SBAR (communication)
- Contract length: 13–26 weeks
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of experience on a cardiac floor required
- Travel experience required unless the candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
- Required skills: Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, Sheath Removal, Interpretation and Management of Dysrhythmias, Post-MI care, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Cardiac Drip Management (non-titrating and titrating), Chest Tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), External CPAP/BiPAP, Nasal Cannula, and Non-Invasive Airway Management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include Arterial Line Management, Wound Care/Wound Vac, and Charge Nurse experience
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrub color: Navy
- Local candidates are accepted
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Unit consolidation to a centralized office may occur mid-contract, with possible reassignment to other units as needed
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite — call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
- All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement
