Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring an active Oregon RN license and the ability to practice independently across L&D, postpartum, and nursery care.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in an L&D unit with 5 LDRP beds, 1 OR suite, 1 triage bed, and 3 additional postpartum beds
- Unit averages approximately 340 deliveries annually (30–35 per month)
- Patient population is low-risk; not a high-risk OB department
- Nurses are expected to be independent and proficient across L&D, postpartum, and routine and intermediate nursery care
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin (induction/augmentation), insulin, and Mag Sulfate
- Central monitoring used for fetal strips; maternal cardiac tele is read by ICU staff
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: GE Centricity Perinatal
- EMR: MEDITECH
- Unit staffing maintains a minimum of 2 RNs at all times; each nurse serves as backup for the other
- CNA II/unit secretary support available on the unit
- Charge nurse on unit with a house supervisor in-house
- OB is on call 24/7 and typically in-house during active labor; neonatologist is on call but not in-house
- Respiratory equipment available includes vent (stabilize/transfer only) and bubble CPAP
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts, 7p–7a; block scheduling with shift trades allowed
- Every other weekend (EOW) required
- Holiday coverage required: 1 major and 1 minor holiday if applicable
- Floating to other units as "helping hands" is expected
Requirements
- Active OR RN license required; the Oregon 90-Day Emergency License is an acceptable option
- Active BLS and NRP certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
- Must be proficient and independently capable across L&D, postpartum, routine nursery, and intermediate nursery care
- Experience titrating drips (Pitocin, insulin, Mag Sulfate) required
- A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; PRN work through outside staffing firms is acceptable
Additional Information
- Nurses must be able to quickly shift between tasks and patient assignments as unit volume can vary significantly within a single shift
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Unit-specific orientation is approximately 3 shifts
- Call or standby requirements to be discussed during the interview process
- Qualified candidates may be contacted by the Unit Manager for a phone interview
