Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg position requiring strong neuro experience, Epic proficiency, and NIHSS certification on a 13-week night shift contract.
Details
- Acute care med/surg neuro unit (6 West) in a hospital setting with 20 beds (14 floor beds)
- Patient population includes neurosciences, deep brain stimulator (DBS) patients, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spines, and neurological disorders
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for floor patients; nurse aides available with a ratio of 1:7-10
- Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs verify monitor tech strip readings in Epic but are not required to read strips independently
- Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin; titration is physician-order driven with protocol-based guidance provided
- RT is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; RNs are not required to have vent experience
- Charge nurse coverage available 24/7
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Full-time nights schedule; weekends and holidays as scheduled
- Weekend night requirement: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday OR Saturday, Sunday, and Monday; on weekdays, every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
- Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E as first priority, then elsewhere in the hospital as needed
- EMR: Epic (recent experience required)
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS — NIHSS must be in hand at time of consideration
- Preferred certification: ACLS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong, recent neuro nursing experience required
- Recent Epic experience required
- Proficiency with G-tube management required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
Additional Information
- Unit orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit
- Scrub color requirement: any combination of white and royal blue
- Travelers are expected to participate in the holiday rotation
- Any background hits must be disclosed at the time of consideration
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to reapply; cumulative experience applies and travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year total before requiring a 2-year break
- Former permanent staff from Princeton Community, Potomac Valley, and Garrett Regional are not eligible to return as travelers
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
