Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float within a multi-facility regional network.
Details
- Work in a 27-bed Medical Telemetry unit at a 109-licensed-bed community hospital designated as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center
- Common patient diagnoses include stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, acuity dependent; surge staffing may increase ratios up to 1:7-8
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating is required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH — peds only); candidates unwilling to float to all facilities within this region should not apply
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in general Med/Tele skills including stroke care and NIH assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
- Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- One professional reference dated within the past year is required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (certified for foley insertion and IV removal for discharge), a daytime receptionist/HUC, a charge nurse (may or may not carry a patient assignment), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and telemetry monitoring technicians; no dedicated IV/VAT team is available
- Orientation includes facility-level new employee orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on-site
- Unit culture is described as positive and team-driven
- First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
