Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 1 year of acute care experience, IL licensure, and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications on night shifts.

Details

• Acute medical/telemetry unit within a 222-bed hospital
• Cares for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients with general medical, surgical, or infectious disease conditions that may require telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions
• Patient age groups: adults and geriatrics
• Unit capacity of 24 beds with an average daily census of 16–18 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on nights
• Performs EKG rhythm identification and management of non-titrating cardiac drips (decrease/weaning permitted; titration up is not)
• Epic EMR preferred
• Night shift: 7p–7:30a, 3x12-hour shifts, including weekdays and weekends
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within service line and scope of practice

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required (pending IL license may be accepted — note status when applying)
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care, neurological assessment, and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and TIA patients
• Advanced medication infusion is within scope; titrating drips upward and the following medications are excluded from this unit's scope: Tenecteplase (TNK), insulin drip, Neosynephrine, and Nipride
• Excluded patient conditions include active/unstable GI bleeding, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs, and continuous NPPV
• Navy scrubs required; free parking available on-site
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers may work at BJC facilities for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
