Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intermediate Care position on the 3C IMCU/PICU unit, requiring PICU experience and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift contract.

Details

  • Position is based in a 26-bed PICU / 13-bed IMCU unit at a pediatric hospital in Arkansas
  • PICU patient population includes respiratory distress, CRRT, ECMO, post-arrest, trauma (blunt and penetrating), neuro, surgical post-ops, urology, ortho, ENT (trach revisions, occasional cleft lip/palate), burns (intubated and under 13 years), and new onset DKA
  • IMCU patient population includes respiratory distress, DKA, chronic vents, trachs, and diagnoses stepped down from the PICU
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: PICU 1:1–2; IMCU 1:3–4
  • CNA/PCT ancillary support available with 1–2 PCTs per shift; Advanced Practice providers present on both units
  • PICU is staffed with Residents, Fellows, and Attending MDs; IMCU has Hospitalists until 11 PM, then Residents
  • Equipment includes Pyxis with barcode scanning, pharmacy dose, GE Dash, Servo-I, and long-term vents (IMCU); in-house transport system available
  • RNs and RTs co-manage ventilators
  • EMR is Epic; experience is required
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Schedule is manager/scheduler driven; every other weekend is required
  • Floating to other units is required as needed
  • Holiday coverage required as needed
  • No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Arkansas (AR) or a valid Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required; additional certifications (e.g., ACLS, TNCC) may be required based on unit assignment
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required; 2–5 years of clinical experience in the specialty preferred
  • All IMCU candidates must have some PICU experience due to floating requirements
  • Travel nursing experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • At least one professional reference from within the last year required for consideration
  • Specialty skills checklist required for consideration
  • Must be nicotine-free

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of approximately 2–3 days, including specialty testing
  • Child Life and Education specialists are actively involved in evaluating each patient for education needs during prolonged hospitalizations
  • Up to 2 parents may remain at the bedside
  • Facility dress code must be followed; details are available upon request
