Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics & Trauma unit at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring active NE or compact RN licensure and at least 2 years of experience.
Details
- Acute care setting on a 55-bed Med/Surg Ortho Trauma unit (4th Floor North & South)
- Level I Trauma Center
- Patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; PCTs available at a 1:10-20 ratio
- RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also in use
- Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to have basic tele awareness
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630-1900
- Typically every other weekend required, with potential for additional coverage based on department need
- 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
- Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state or compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA); ACLS preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Cannot be currently or recently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year
- A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Unit orientation consists of 2 days of department-specific training, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam on the first Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to continue
- The unit serves a high-volume, high-turnover patient population with multiple admissions and discharges daily; strong time management and organizational skills are essential
- Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
- Hourly rounding and patient responsiveness are a strong focus of this unit
- The unit serves a diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance; a limited amount of block scheduling may be approved
- RNs must wear navy blue scrubs
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, and no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
