Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedic Trauma unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, Level 1 Trauma Center, on a 55-bed Med/Surg Orthopedic Trauma unit (4th Floor North & South)
• Patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; PCTs available with a 1:10-20 ratio
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps are also in use
• Telemetry techs interpret strips, though RNs are expected to have some tele awareness
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); travelers are scheduled with limited block scheduling available
• Every other weekend required, with potential for additional weekend coverage based on department need
• Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units housing Med/Surg patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA); ACLS preferred
• Med/Surg experience required; orthopedic or trauma experience a plus
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility, nor have been directly employed by these systems within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include managing a high-volume patient census with frequent admissions and discharges in a single shift
• A charge nurse is present on every shift and carries their own patient assignment
• Unit has a strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
• Serves a diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
• 2 days of unit-specific orientation provided; a pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation with a required passing score of 90%
• RNs wear navy blue scrubs; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Holiday coverage required for 2–3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point
• Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance
