Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel Occupational Therapist with 2+ years of experience for a 13-week assignment at a Critical Access Hospital, primarily serving LTC/Skilled Nursing patients with a diverse caseload including post-surgical, orthopedic, and neurological diagnoses.

Details

• LTC/Skilled Nursing Facility setting within a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
• Position is based primarily in the LTC/Skilled Nursing unit, with less than 10% of time spent in outpatient settings
• May be required to float between outpatient, inpatient swing bed, assisted living, and LTC/Skilled Nursing
• Floating may include travel to a nursing home approximately 25 miles away; drive time is compensated
• Patient caseload of 6–8 patients per day, dependent on overall department volume
• Common diagnoses include post-surgical (total joints, ORIF), orthopedic, neurologic (stroke, Parkinson's, MS), sports medicine, and complex medical cases
• Patients may range from immediately post-op through 1–2 months post-op, reflecting long-term recovery therapy
• Day shift, 8-hour shifts with flexible start times between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM (typically 8:00 AM–4:30 PM)
• Five 8-hour shifts per week; schedule is set by the DOR and Office Assistant — no self-scheduling
• Weekend work is occasionally required (rare); no holiday coverage required
• Charting performed in Epic EMR

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of OT experience (clinical rotations do not count toward this requirement)
• Active South Dakota OT license required (license required if applicable)
• Current BLS certification required
• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification required
• LTC/Skilled Nursing experience preferred
• Experience with long-term recovery therapy preferred
• Epic EMR experience beneficial

Additional Information

• Provide occupational therapy services across outpatient, inpatient swing bed, assisted living, and LTC/Skilled Nursing settings
• Interdisciplinary rehab team includes 3 PTs, 1 PTA, 1 COTA, 1 OT, and 1 SLP, supervised by a PT/DPT/DOR
• Orientation is approximately 1 week, provided by the DOR; full patient load of 6–8 patients per day expected by week 2
• Expected productivity is 75%
• Any color scrubs or business casual attire are acceptable
• Candidates must live more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
