Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department position at a Level 2 Trauma Center in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and SD or compact RN license.
Details
- Level 2 Trauma Center Emergency Department with 33 main beds, including 8 Trauma/Resuscitation beds and 4 Behavioral Health rooms
- Vertical care area used for ESI 3/4 patients and as additional pod space depending on ED flow
- High-volume department seeing 150–180 patients daily with a heavy trauma population, especially during summer months
- Patient population spans neonates to geriatric, including sepsis, DKA, GI bleeds, respiratory illness, stroke, cardiac, and pediatric critical care
- Designated Complete Stroke Center, accepting stroke symptom patients up to 24 hours, and has a cardiac catheterization lab
- RN patient ratio: 1:4–5
- 12-hour variable shifts; available shift times include 0630–1900, 1000–2230, 1200–0030, 1400–0200, and 1830–0700
- Variable scheduling means travelers will not work both day and night shifts within the same week
- Travelers may be scheduled every weekend depending on staffing needs
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may be required to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only — not to take a full assignment
- Epic EMR used; candidates without Epic experience should be noted
- Omnicell and Alaris equipment used
Requirements
- Active RN license for South Dakota (SD state or compact license) required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS; CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED-specific RN experience, excluding travel experience, strongly preferred
- Candidates with 1.5 years of ED experience (excluding travel) plus 2 or more years of experience outside the ED may be considered with manager approval
- Proficiency with ESI triage assessments and the ability to distinguish sick from non-sick patients
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient prioritization skills
- Comfort and ability to care for all patient types seen in this ED, including trauma, stroke, behavioral health, and pediatric critical care
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers are expected to participate in Sexual Assault patient care, including evidence collection (buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviewing) on a rotating basis with permanent staff — a resource booklet and a 24/7 SA Quality Coordinator are available for support
- Orientation includes 8 hours of facility-wide NEO and 4 hours of ED-specific education plus a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit
- Robust unit support includes 24/7 charge nurse, ED techs, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physician and NP coverage, pharmacy tech, and security
- Time off requires manager approval; no RTO will be approved during the first 3 weeks of August due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
- Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
- Travelers may be asked to precept students
- Navy scrubs required
