Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.
Details
- ICU setting within an acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16 patients
- Adult patient population including trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- RNs manage patients on equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilator
- RNs are required to read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips; GE monitor brand with tele tech oversight
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Floating required, typically to PCU and occasionally Med/Surg, with standard ratios of 1:4 or 1:5 on those units
- On-call response time of 30 minutes required if called back in from on-call status
- Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period required
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Valid driver's license required for consideration and used to verify candidate resides at least 50 miles from the facility
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates who are currently or have been within the past year directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift; a pass/fail open-book exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation and requires a minimum score of 90% to pass — failure results in contract termination
- Nurse aide support is available based on census for 1:1 sitter coverage or floor assistance; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630)
- Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers are scheduled to fill remaining needs — block scheduling is not approved except for weekends only
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
- Blue scrubs or facility dress code requirements may apply — confirm at time of offer
