Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step Down (GMU) position with oncology/chemotherapy experience and a preference for ONCC or ONS certification.
Details
- General Medical/Oncology Step Down (GMU) unit in a hospital setting
- Cares for general medical and oncology step down patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, with support staff available when ratios flex higher and chemo admits decreasing assignment ratios
- Charge RN is not typically included in the patient assignment
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend required, with weekends assigned by the manager/scheduler; remaining days available through self-scheduling
- Floating required to other med/surg areas, including an acute unit and the ER, to care for med/surg patients — travelers are first to float
- No on-call responsibilities
- Documents using Epic (preferred experience)
- Uses Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps
Requirements
- Active Michigan RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (preferred per some notes — confirm with recruiter)
- ONC or ONS certification required; one or the other is acceptable — ONS may be pending (allow up to 4 weeks to obtain), ONC must be in hand
- ONCC certification highly preferred
- ACLS and OCN certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/Step Down experience required
- Oncology and/or chemotherapy experience highly preferred
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs required
- Experience administering and monitoring chemotherapy via IV required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Additional Information
- Administer and monitor IV chemotherapy and provide step down-level care for general medical and oncology patients
- Must be available and fully on-site for the first two weeks of the assignment
- No RTO approved for the July 4th holiday; any RTO requests after offer acceptance must be discussed directly with the on-site manager
- Block scheduling may be accommodated — include any specific scheduling requests when applying
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have a gap of at least 6 months before returning
- Proof of flu vaccination is required; exemption requests must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
- References are required for consideration
- Any background history should be disclosed upfront for review
