Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PICU experience and an active SC or Compact RN license.
Details
- 28-bed Pediatric ICU providing intensive and intermediate care to patients ages 0–18 in a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital
- Mixed ICU and stepdown unit serving a blend of medical and surgical pediatric diagnoses, including respiratory compromise, trauma, post-operative surgical cases, and neurology/neurosurgery
- Patient ratios vary: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on patient acuity and care level
- Common therapies include mechanical ventilation, cardiac support, ECMO, CRRT, renal dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and pediatric palliative care
- Charting via Epic
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week scheduling period
- Holiday coverage required when contract falls within a holiday period
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active SC RN license or Compact (multi-state) RN license — candidates with a pending SC license may be considered, but must be fully licensed before starting
- Current AHA-issued BLS and PALS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- SSN and driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this position
- Previous permanent or PRN staff at any MUSC location must have been separated from the system for at least 1 year before being eligible to work as a traveler
- ECMO and CRRT experience is preferred
- Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are considered local; non-local candidates are prioritized, though local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration; approval is based on unit needs
- Pre-start online modules (approximately 4 hours) are required prior to the first day
- Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June–November), all staff and contractors may be assigned to emergency response duties; peak activity months are August and September
- Support staff on the unit includes Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
