Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Clinical Decision Unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and Epic proficiency.

- Work in a 24-bed Clinical Decision Unit within a 241-bed Level 3 Trauma hospital that is also a Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses such as cardiac, respiratory, and neurological conditions in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 (day and night), with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8; CNA support at 1:12
- Common procedures include cardiac rhythm interpretation, administration of non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and care of patients with tubes/drains
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; bedside monitoring: Masimo in all rooms; telemetry monitoring performed remotely by tele tech
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week; shift times are 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Floating is required within the region and scope of practice, covering Region 3 facilities: Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- At least 6 months of Epic EMR experience required
- Core Med/Tele skillset required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drip administration, IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and care of patients with tubes/drains
- Must be willing and able to float to multiple regional facilities as needed — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Department support includes CNAs, a charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), an intensivist (24/7), and a hospitalist (on-site during days, virtual evenings/overnight)
- Orientation includes NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Schedule is planned on a 6-week cycle
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; additional time may be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Low census call is possible; night shift travelers may be called back until 3:00 AM
- Scrubs: Navy
