Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float across a regional health system.

• 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center certified hospital in Charlotte, NC
• Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA and IVDA, tracheostomies requiring mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA support ratio of 1:9
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Floating required within Region 2 across multiple facilities: Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; Rover Communication system
• No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with the PCU patient population listed, including trach/vented patients, temporary/transvenous pacemakers, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Candidate's permanent address must be located 50 or more miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
• Unit support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, virtual nursing, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a dedicated unit pharmacist, case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and intensivist coverage until midnight with virtual/on-call critical care MD overnight
• Staff are responsible for reading and posting telemetry rhythms each shift, as there is no remote telemetry monitoring
• Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) session and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
