Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position at an acute care hospital in Decatur, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Works in the Medical Surgical Neuro unit of a 372-bed acute care hospital
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (1800–0630)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
• Patient population includes CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury cases
• Telemetry remote monitoring and use of Rapid Response Teams required
• Cerner EMR used; experience required
• Level II Trauma Center; teaching hospital experience preferred

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Proficiency with telemetry remote monitoring and Rapid Response Team protocols
• GI skills required: colostomy care and feeding tube care/management
• IV therapy skills required: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Medication experience required: Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Respiratory skills required: chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen, pre/post thoracic surgery, and tracheostomy management
• Experience with surgical drains required
• Neurological/psychiatric experience required: CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
• Additional skills required: isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Cerner EMR experience required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• 13-week contract
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO requests should ideally not exceed 5 days; requests beyond 5 days require facility approval
• Any permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Teaching hospital experience preferred; Level II Trauma experience preferred
