Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, with oncology and PCU experience preferred and chemotherapy certification a plus.

Details

• Acute care setting at a Level 1 Trauma facility on a mixed PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit
• 27–28 bed unit serving adult oncology and trauma patient populations
• Day shift ratios: 1:4 (PCU) and 1:5 (Med-Surg); night shift ratios: 1:5–6 patients
• Common diagnoses include oncology and trauma
• Common drips and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem drips
• Specialty equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Lyko lifts; hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000) available on unit
• Charting is done in Epic; recent Epic experience (within 6 months) is helpful for orientation purposes
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling
• Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
• 2-day orientation provided

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU and/or oncology settings
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required; pending certifications not accepted
• ONS/ONCC certification required
• Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified via driver's license)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for oncology and trauma PCU patients, titrating drips, and performing hemodynamic monitoring; training for ventilator management, CVP, A-line, Swan, and EV-1000 can occur in real time on the unit
• Unit is supported by nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, an educator, and a dietician
• A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
• RTO must be disclosed upfront; 7 or fewer days of RTO per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas

• Holiday coverage is expected as part of the standard schedule
