Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Wheeling, WV, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift assignment.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 30-bed Medical/Surgical overflow unit
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, cholecystitis, and appendicitis
- Telemetry available on the unit, monitored remotely by monitor technicians
- Intermittent BiPAP used; no ventilators on unit
- Heparin drip titration based on aPTT results required
- Patient ratio of 1:6–7; candidates must be comfortable with a 1:7 assignment
- PCTs (patient care technicians) available on the unit
- One charge RN on the floor with a patient assignment
- 12-hour night shifts
- Weekends scheduled as needed, typically half of all weekends during the assignment
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float based on census needs
- Scheduling managed through Qgenda
- Epic EMR used on this unit
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- BSN not required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any licensing hits (disciplinary actions, restrictions, etc.) must be disclosed upfront
Additional Information
- Provide medical/surgical nursing care to a diverse acute patient population
- Scrub color required: Navy Blue
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being eligible to apply
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
