Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a minimum of 2 years of experience, strong ventilator and vasopressor management skills, and Epic proficiency for a night shift travel assignment.

Details

• ICU setting within a hospital environment serving an adult to geriatric patient population
• High volume of ventilators and arterial lines (A-lines) with a wide range of ICU diagnoses
• Patient ratio of 1:2–3
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within facility and to a sister campus is required within scope of practice
• No on-call responsibilities
• Epic EMR experience required; Pyxis also utilized
• Navy blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Experience with titration of continuous infusions including sedation agents, pain medications, paralytic agents, and vasopressors required
• Skills required include: arterial line management, central line care/management, PICC line management, IV therapy, blood product administration, ventilator management, care of ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of ABGs, ETT/NT suctioning, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, 12-lead EKG/ECG, IV insulin protocols, infection prevention, and isolation precautions/PPE
• CRRT experience on the Baxter PrisMax machine required to care for CRRT patients
• Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) are highly preferred
• Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for at least 1 full year before returning as a traveler

Additional Information

• Multidisciplinary morning rounds include the intensivist, bedside RN, PharmD, RRT, OT/PT, dietitian, case manager, and wound care
• Bedside RN is responsible for patient transport (e.g., to CT), accompanied by a tech and RRT if the patient is on a ventilator
• Night shift NPs place central lines, vascaths, and A-lines, attend all codes, address ICU care issues, and admit patients from the ED to the ICU — NPs serve as first call before the intensivist
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted
• RTO maximum is 7 days; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
• Holiday coverage policy: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work 2 of them (one holiday RTO request may be submitted for review)
• Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
• No special scheduling or alternate shift requests are permitted — the posted night shift is firm
• Travel pairs will not be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
