Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, with a focus on neurological patient care.
Details
- Work in a 43-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a daily census of approximately 42 patients
- Patient population consists primarily of stroke patients, with additional neuro diagnoses including neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological conditions
- Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are not typically assigned to the EMU unless trained
- Patient ratio is 1:6
- 12-hour day shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Travelers are required to work every other weekend
- Floating is required to other Med/Surg Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units
- Epic EMR used; Pyxis medication dispensing system; SBAR communication framework
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- ACLS preferred but not required
- IV insertion and telemetry skills required
- Experience with interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias required
- Med/Surg neuro experience required
- Must have completed at least 2 prior travel contracts — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
Additional Information
- Orientation is 36 hours
- Navy scrubs required
- If a shift is called out, the traveler is expected to make up that shift within the same week or by the end of the contract
- Missed weekend shifts must be made up based on unit needs
- RTO is not permitted after booking
- Local candidates are accepted
- Frequent floating may be required
