Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Stepdown position at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring 2 years of experience, ACLS and NIHSS certifications, and night shift availability.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care, Level II Trauma hospital setting
- 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5, with nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- Charting system: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Epic EMR experience
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; permanent address as shown on driver's license will be used to verify eligibility
- Candidates currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RNs will take a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation on the first Friday; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass, and failure will result to contract termination
- Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove artificial nails will result in contract termination
- Charge nurse is present on each shift
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- This is a fast-paced unit; candidates who thrive here typically demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills
