Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg Orthopedics night shift position at a Level III trauma acute care hospital, requiring an active IA or compact RN license and at least one year of experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a 28-bed Med/Surg Orthopedics unit and 22 overflow beds
- Patient population includes total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, CHF, appendicitis, acute respiratory distress, cholelithiasis, and patients with ETOH/drug abuse history
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombotics, and narcotic drips are used on the unit; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Telemetry monitors are available at the main nurses station; monitor techs are located in the ICU
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); self-scheduling
- Every third weekend required; Friday and Saturday nights are considered the weekend for this shift
- Floating required to PCU and McDermott (behavioral health unit)
Requirements
- Active IA or compact RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS certification required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Med/Surg experience required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration, used to verify permanent address is at least 50 miles from the facility
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity Health) within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
Additional Information
- Unit emphasizes hourly rounding and bedside shift report
- Travelers are expected to be flexible, self-directed, and comfortable with change
- Orientation consists of one week of classroom training followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to continue the assignment
- Navy blue scrubs are required; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
