Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/IMC position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of telemetry or PCU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU/IMC) in a 562-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
  • Intermediate care/general telemetry unit with an average daily census of 38 patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:5–7
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating to like units within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals is required for all travelers
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required work setting experience includes MS/Tele, Cardiac Telemetry, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Charting is performed in Cerner (experience required)
  • Scrubs: any solid color
  • Free parking permit provided (form completed during orientation)

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required — must be in hand at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI AHA cards not accepted)
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Telemetry or PCU/IMC/Stepdown required
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Required cardiac monitoring skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring
  • Required cardiovascular experience: Post Cardiac Angiogram, Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, Sheath Removal, TR Band
  • Required IV/phlebotomy skills: accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
  • Required medication skills: Heparin protocols, managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, PCA management
  • Required respiratory skills: BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac), HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration
  • Required additional skills: feeding tube care and management, Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure management, CVA care, surgical drain management, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Additional Information

  • Provides intermediate cardiac and telemetry nursing care to a diverse PCU patient population including cardiac, renal, neurological, respiratory, and post-surgical cases
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility
  • Any current or former permanent or PRN employee of the facility's health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
  • RTO is ideally no more than 5 days for the assignment; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval — all time-off requests must be submitted upfront
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • A full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required
