Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC/Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital, requiring an active IL RN license and a strong telemetry and stepdown background.

- Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU/IMC/Stepdown) setting
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45–17:15); 4x12 schedule may be accommodated upon request
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital is required for all travelers
- No on-call requirements
- Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
- Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, renal, GI, and post-surgical cases
- Skills required include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of Rapid Response Teams, cardiac drip titration, vasoactive drip titration, heparin protocols, PCA, procedural sedation, tracheostomy management, chest tube management, ventilated patient care, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, central/PICC/arterial line management, port access, sheath removal, TR Band, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration — pending licensure is not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; prior travel experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI cards not accepted)
- Preferred certifications: ACLS
- Required work setting experience: PCU, IMC, DOU, Stepdown, or Telemetry
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and cardiac/vasoactive drip titration required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
Additional Information
- Scrubs: any solid color
- Parking permit required at no cost
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 5 days or fewer (non-holiday) can typically be approved; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial hospital system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Candidate orientation includes completion of online modules prior to and on the first day of assignment (a virtual at-home day)
