Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown position at a Heart & Vascular Institute, requiring cardiac/vascular experience and the ability to titrate drips.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care cardiac stepdown unit within a Heart & Vascular Institute (10SE HVI)
- 32-bed unit (all private rooms) with 22 stepdown and 12 floor beds
- Patient population includes post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, LVAD, heart transplants, TAVRs, valve replacements), vascular surgery (AAA repair, CEA, femoral bypass), and cardiology cases (STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, cardiac cath procedures)
- Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; floor ratio is 1:6
- Clinical Associates are available on the unit with a goal of 4–5 CAs per shift at a ratio of 1 CA per 8–10 patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, and dobutamine
- Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Cardiac monitoring technicians (CMTs) are housed on the unit and interpret all telemetry strips
- EMR system is Epic
- Nights shift, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Cardiac and/or vascular nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Candidate's driver's license address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- 13-week contract
- Provide post-operative and acute cardiac and vascular nursing care including management of complex diagnoses and titratable drip therapy
- Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7 for support
- Unit orientation consists of 2–3 shifts
- Scrub color requirement: solid royal blue and white
- Unit is recognized for excellent, quality patient care and a strong teamwork culture
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Candidates who have worked at a WVU facility for a cumulative total of one year must also take a 2-year break before reapplying
- Two professional references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
