Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care Birthing Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of LDRP experience and active WA or Compact RN licensure.

Details

• 34-bed Birthing Center within an acute care hospital, including 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
• Patient population includes high-risk pregnancies at 33 weeks and above, including preeclampsia, diabetes, and patients with psychosocial and substance use concerns
• Unit averages 150–180 births per month
• Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for L&D and 1:3–4 for couplets
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
• EFM system used is Centricity Perinatal
• EMR system is Epic; an 8-hour Epic orientation class is included
• Travelers are also expected to function in postpartum, including routine mother-baby care, transitioning babies, and attending low-risk deliveries
• No floating outside of the department; no floating to NICU
• Support staff includes one surgical tech available 24/7 and a patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
• Free charge nurse on both shifts (charge nurse does not take a patient assignment)
• 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist and NNP in the nursery
• 24/7 OB anesthesia provider on-site with a call room on the unit
• Respiratory therapy support is available, typically one RT assigned to the family birth unit
• PACU monitoring after C-section is supported by telemetry/monitor techs
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts; weekend requirement is every other Friday and Saturday nights
• Block scheduling is available when requested

Requirements

• Active WA state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, and NRP; intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of LDRP experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered if they have multiple prior travel assignments
• Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
• Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning newborns
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
• Orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2–3 twelve-hour unit-specific shifts
• Scrubs are provided by the facility; a locker is also provided
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
• When placed on standby, a 45-minute response time is required
• The unit manager values open communication and expects travelers to be adaptable to unit workflows, policies, procedures, and feedback
