Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a night shift position at a high-volume ER and Level I Trauma Center serving adult and geriatric populations.

• Acute care teaching hospital setting with a high-volume ER and Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric)
• Unit serves adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients across critical care areas including neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
• Patient ratio of 1:25
• Equipment includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with the iNOvent, and LTV1200
• Epic EMR experience required
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Floating within skillset is required
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Requirements

• RRT credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required; CRT not accepted
• Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine required; other state licenses accepted with the requirement to obtain a 90-day temporary authorization while VA permanent license is issued — license required if applicable
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Critical care experience in a high-volume ER and Level I Trauma Center, including neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
• Proficiency with aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and a range of inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flolan, and inhaled steroids
• Competency in ABG interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Airway management skills including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
• Proficiency in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
• Epic EMR experience required
• Valid driver's license (DL) and Social Security card (SSN) required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration

• Administer respiratory therapy services across a broad patient population in a high-acuity, high-volume environment
• A robust Assess and Treat protocol is in place, along with ventilator management and liberation policies
• The facility is a Magnet-designated acute care teaching hospital affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• The hospital is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• First-time travelers are accepted; one year of travel experience is preferred
• Local candidates are not accepted; a radius rule applies to determine eligibility
