Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a fast-paced, high-volume day surgery unit within a Level I Trauma Center, with strong ENT and sports orthopedics experience required.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting within a Level I Trauma Center
- 2 West OR unit functions as a day surgery center within the hospital, handling outpatient cases exclusively
- Unit operates 10 OR suites and averages 80–120 cases per day with fast-paced, quick-turnover workflows
- Primary specialties include ENT (endoscopic sinus surgery with navigation, septorhinoplasty, septoplasty with turbinoplasty, tympanomastoidectomies), Ophthalmology, Sports Orthopedics (hip/knee/shoulder arthroscopies, MCL/ACL/PCL repairs), GYN (laparoscopic and open), and Urology
- No robotic cases performed on this unit; minimal plastics and general surgery cases
- 2 ENT rooms and 2 Ophthalmology rooms run daily
- Schedule is 4x10-hour shifts per week
- On-call required after assigned shifts, with approximately two call shifts assigned per week
- Charting is done in Epic
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Strong proficiency in ENT procedures (e.g., endoscopic sinus surgery with navigation, septoplasty, tympanomastoidectomies) required
- Strong sports orthopedics experience required (e.g., hip/knee arthroscopies, ACL/MCL/PCL repairs)
- Ambulatory or outpatient surgical experience preferred for this unit
- Driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
- Two supervisor and peer references required, including one supervisor reference from any permanent position held in the last 12 months
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Scrubs are provided for OR staff
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to return
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
- Orientation runs on a biweekly schedule on non-NEO weeks
