Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience, working a Friday–Sunday night shift schedule.
Details
- Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry Unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Patient population includes pre/post cardiac procedure patients (pacemaker implantation, ICD, cardiac catheterization), unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA/TIA, and post-interventional peripheral vascular procedure patients
- Patient ratios of 1:5–6; nurses must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients during surge periods
- Unit manages a high patient turnover volume, averaging 78–90 patients per week
- Specialized procedures include stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, ICD, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, etc.)
- Special equipment includes telemetry monitoring, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, non-rebreather masks (palliative only), and BiPAP (chronic use only)
- Unit also cares for COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BiPAP during surge periods
- EMR: Epic (Dimensions); medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication via SBAR
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only (36 hours/week)
- On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
- Floating is required
- Self-scheduling with leadership oversight to balance unit needs
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of cardiac telemetry nursing experience required
- Strong IV insertion and telemetry monitoring skills required
- Experience with cardiac drips and PCI patients required
- Experience titrating Cardizem drips required
- Must be comfortable working in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with high patient turnover
- Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry nursing care to a diverse cardiac and stroke patient population, including managing multiple cardiac drips and caring for pre/post procedure patients
- A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
- Orientation is 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during week one for hospital orientation
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be negotiated on-site; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
- Maximum RTO for this position is 7 days
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue, white, or a combination of both; jackets must match uniform material and color
