Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 6-week travel contract at an acute care rural community hospital in Minnesota, requiring at least 3 years of OR circulator experience including general and orthopedic/total joint cases.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with a 7-suite OR department
  • Case volume averages 5–25 cases per day
  • Common case types include general surgery, orthopedic/sports medicine (including total joints), plastics and cosmetics, podiatry, cataract/eye procedures, OB/GYN/women's health (non-cancer), and endoscopy/colonoscopy
  • Primary role is RN Circulator across a variety of case types
  • Scrub experience is preferred; RNs may be asked to scrub in addition to circulating
  • OR techs are on staff
  • Charting is done in Cerner/Oracle
  • Schedule is 5 x 8-hour day shifts per week, 0645–1515, with block scheduling managed by the unit manager
  • Travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
  • Weeknight on-call rotations required 1–2 times per week, averaging 15.5 hours of call per week (typically Monday–Friday)
  • Weekend on-call required 1–2 times per month as 24-hour call shifts (Saturday 0645–Sunday 0645 or Sunday 0645–Monday 0645)
  • 30-minute call response time required
  • May be included in holiday call rotation covering the day before and day after the holiday, with extended coverage if the holiday falls on a Monday or Friday
  • Floating may be required to OR scrub, PAA/PACU, sterile processing, or helping hands roles

Requirements

  • Active MN RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS is a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of RN OR circulator experience required
  • Experience circulating in a wide variety of case types required, with specific emphasis on general surgery and orthopedic total joints
  • Plastics experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a similarly sized facility — Trauma Level 3 or 4 and/or Critical Access Hospital — required
  • Cerner/Oracle EMR experience required
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Additional Information

  • This is a rural community hospital with a broad and varied surgical caseload
  • Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor plus 1–2 on-call shifts with a preceptor; no additional orientation hours are provided
  • Facility-provided scrubs must be worn and may not be taken off-site; candidates should arrive to the facility in appropriate attire
  • One charge nurse oversees the OR, PAA, and PACU departments
  • Holiday call rotation may include extended coverage around holidays that fall adjacent to weekends (e.g., a Monday or Friday holiday may include the surrounding weekend)
