- Serves a diverse medical patient population across both floor and step-down levels based on patient and hospital needs
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 for step-down and 6:1 for med-surg/floor assignments

- Respiratory equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators for step-down patients (vents requiring setting adjustments are transferred to ICU)
- Telemetry is monitored via a remote surveillance center and central monitoring on the unit — RNs are not required to read their own strips; Philips telemetry equipment is used
- EMR is Epic; experience is required
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7:30a
- Every other weekend required; agency RN positions are posted as weekend positions
- Approximately half of all WVUH-recognized holidays required
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float to other floor or step-down units
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience is required
- Ability to manage both a 3-patient step-down assignment and a 6-patient med-surg assignment
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Copy of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7; charge RNs may take a patient assignment while the unit is newly opened, with the long-term goal of maintaining a free charge RN
- Scrub dress code is any combination of royal blue and white
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to reapply
