Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown/MedSurg flex unit position requiring Epic EMR proficiency and the ability to manage both step-down and med-surg patient ratios.
Details
- Work in a 29-bed acute care stepdown/med-surg flex unit in a hospital setting
- Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs
- Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
- Step-down nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1; med-surg ratio of 6:1; Clinical Associates (CAs) available with a goal of 1 CA per 10 patients
- RNs will titrate drips per written orders; common drips include heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP on the floor and step-down, and HiFlow and vents in step-down (ventilator setting adjustments are transferred to ICU)
- Remote telemetry surveillance center and central unit monitoring available; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips; Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used
- Charting via Epic EMR (experience required)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend required; agency RN positions are posted as weekend positions
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Ability to manage both a 3-patient step-down assignment and a 6-patient med-surg assignment
- Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- Driver's license and copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
- Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7; charge RNs may take a patient assignment while the unit is newly opened, with the goal of transitioning to a free charge model
- Travelers are first to float to other floor or step-down units
- Holiday coverage required for approximately half of all recognized WVUH holidays
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Scrub color: any combination of royal blue and white
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
