Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MS/Tele Float Pool position covering a multi-facility zone in southwest Kansas, requiring 2 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to float across facilities within a 60-mile zone.

Details

• Acute care setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across multiple hospitals within Zone 4, centered around Garden City, KS, covering a 60-mile radius
• Float pool encompasses multiple units including General MS/Tele, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
• Patient population consists of adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 based on acuity
• May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS/Tele
• Heparin drip titration required
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP present on units
• Nurse aides available on units
• Charting system: Epic (experience preferred)
• Alaris pump experience preferred
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps
• Two scheduling formats used: (A) assigned to a single facility for the week with possible in-facility floating, or (B) Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment communicated 1–2 hours before shift start
• Low-census standby/call requirements are rare
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active KS RN license or Compact (NLC) license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele experience within the last 3 years required
• Prior neuro experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Alaris pump experience preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must permanently reside more than 60 miles from the Garden City, KS zone center to qualify for travel pay rates

Additional Information

• This is a float pool role with no home base facility — travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 4 radius
• Zone 4 facilities include hospitals in Ulysses, Dodge City, and Garden City, KS
• Designated charge nurses on each unit; charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally carry a small patient assignment
• All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
• May be included in holiday rotation
• Clinicians must be on-site in Kansas for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms are eligible
