Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring TNCC and a minimum of 2 years of ER experience.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital Emergency Department with 10 beds and 2 trauma bays
  • Patient population includes both pediatric and adult patients with common diagnoses such as chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, lacerations, STEMI, stroke (stabilize and transfer), and trauma
  • Military patients are seen when they cannot be accommodated on base
  • Average daily patient volume is approximately 35 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
  • Travelers are expected to perform triage in the designated triage room
  • Psychiatric patients are managed in a single safe room with sitters available
  • Common drips include procedural sedation, TNK, and standard ER drips
  • Staffing includes 1 MD on site 24/7, 1 APP (12p–8p), a charge RN 24/7 (charge does not take patients), and a house supervisor on nights
  • Support staff includes 1 CNA and sitters available on call; RT is available 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
  • RNs monitor using SpaceLabs monitors and read their own strips; phlebotomy support is available but RNs typically draw labs
  • Radiology handles patient transport for imaging unless the patient is critical
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Weekend requirement: minimum of 4 weekends per 6-week period
  • No floating requirements
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • EMR: Epic

Requirements

  • Active Idaho (ID) or Compact RN license required — must be active at time of consideration, pending licenses not accepted
  • Required certifications (all must be active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of emergency department RN experience required
  • Well-rounded ER experience strongly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — permanent address required for verification

Additional Information

  • Travelers will perform triage, draw labs, monitor patients via SpaceLabs, and manage standard ER workflows
  • 2-day unit-specific orientation is provided
  • Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Former permanent employees of this facility must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • Scrub color: any color permitted
  • Local candidates are not accepted — a 50-mile radius rule is strictly enforced
