Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Stepdown (CVSD) position at an acute care hospital in Wheeling, WV, requiring ACLS/BLS certifications and hands-on experience with epicardial pacing and chest tubes.
Details
- Acute care cardiovascular stepdown unit (CVSD) with 22 beds
- Patient population includes cardiac diagnoses such as bradycardia, A-fib, SVT, CHF, CAD, NSTEMI, PVD, PE, CVA/TIA, as well as post-operative VATS, lobectomy, wedge resection, chest tubes, tracheotomy (no vents), TAVR, and post-op day 1 CABG patients transitioning from the ICU
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; nursing aides available at a 1:15 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, procainamide, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
- Telemetry monitoring via Nihon Koden monitors; monitor techs handle all strip interpretation and documentation — RNs are not required to read their own strips
- No ventilators, continuous BiPap, CPAP, or Airvo on the unit; RT available hospital-wide 24/7
- Hospitalist and intensivist both in-house; nursing supervisor on-site 24/7
- Charting via Allscripts EMR
- 12-hour night shifts; rotating schedule averaging every other weekend
- Position may involve rotating day and night shifts (2 weeks days, 2 weeks nights) depending on staffing needs; shift times are 6:45–7:15
- Holidays are shared among travel and permanent staff on a rotation basis
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown or cardiovascular stepdown unit experience required
- Proficiency with epicardial pacing and chest tube management required
- Experience titrating cardiac drips required
- Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of a single 12-hour shift with a preceptor
- Unit uses self-scheduling via a scheduling committee; blocked scheduling is open for discussion
- IV therapy team handles all IV insertions
- Charge nurse carries a full patient assignment
- Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are not permitted
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to return
- Candidates may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- A driver's license copy and copies of all certifications are required for consideration
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
