Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 3 years of LDR experience and a strong background with high-risk obstetric patients.

Details

  • Work in a Labor & Delivery unit at a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with an on-site Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
  • Unit consists of 7 labor beds, 3 antepartum beds, 2 triage beds, and 2 ORs averaging 55–75 deliveries per month
  • High-volume, complex patient population including laboring patients, scheduled inductions, scheduled C-sections, high-risk patients (Magnesium Sulfate, preterm labor, diabetic, postpartum hemorrhage), hyperemesis, cerclages, NSTs, and patients as early as ~20 weeks gestation
  • Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for patients on Pitocin, 1:2 for Pitocin plus triage or Cervidil, 1:3 for stable antepartum or triage; Mother Baby ratios up to 1:3 couplets or 1:6 moms
  • EMR: Cerner Maternity and Surgi-Net (OR); some paper charting required after delivery
  • IV pumps: Hospira/Abbott Plum A+; medication dispensing via Omnicell; fetal monitoring via GE Corometrics, Novii, and Space Labs monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, starting at 6:40 PM
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No mandatory call; low-census call may occur with a 30-minute callback requirement
  • Floating to Mother Baby unit required; duties include basic assessments, documenting feeds and wets, and drawing bili labs as needed

Requirements

  • Active AL RN license or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
  • Minimum 3 years of LDR experience required
  • Demonstrated experience with high-risk obstetric patients including shoulder dystocia, emergent C-sections, postpartum hemorrhage, preterm patients on Magnesium Sulfate, and pre-eclampsia
  • Proficiency in circulating cesarean sections, couplet care, and immediate post-delivery care (first hour)
  • Mother Baby (couplet care) experience highly preferred
  • SSN, DOB (day and month), one reference from a charge nurse or above from the past 12 months, and copies of certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide care to a high volume of complex, high-risk obstetric patients; strong clinical judgment and LDR expertise are essential for this role
  • Unit is supported by a charge nurse, OB technician (usually 1 per shift, with a second available on call), an IV/VAT team, and in-house phlebotomy (though RNs typically collect their own labs)
  • Anesthesia is in-house; OB providers are on-call for deliveries (not in-house at night)
  • Orientation consists of 3 shifts in LDR and 1 shift in Mother Baby
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 designated holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day
  • Green scrubs are provided by the facility; parking is free
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
