Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, with a Friday–Sunday night shift schedule.
Details
- Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
- High-volume unit with a weekly patient turnover of 78–90 patients
- Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac catheterization, TR bands, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA/TIA, and post-uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures
- Unit also houses COVID-positive patients requiring opti-flow and BiPAP during surge periods
- Patient ratio is 1:5–6; candidates must be comfortable managing up to 6 patients
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule — 36 hours per week
- On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
- Floating required; frequency depends on patient census
- Weekend requirement: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- EMR: Epic (Dimensions); also uses Pyxis and SBAR documentation
- Special equipment includes telemetry monitors, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2 (stable patients), non-rebreather masks (palliative only), and BiPAP (chronic use only)
Requirements
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a cardiac telemetry or comparable high-acuity setting
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and IV insertion required
- Experience managing cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone) and titration required
- Experience with pre/post procedure cardiac patients and PCI required
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment with high patient acuity
- Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- State Board of Nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Orientation consists of 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
- A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
- RTO (time off requests) are not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue or white, or a combination of both; jackets must match the scrub material and color
