Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Orthopedics unit position requiring at least 2 years of ortho experience, Epic EMR proficiency, and night shift availability.
Details
- Fast-paced orthopedic unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical cases
- Average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
- Expected nurse-to-patient ratio of 5-6:1, with occasional flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Night shift: 12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12 per week)
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Block scheduling option available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Every other weekend required; any missed weekend shift must be made up on a weekend
- Floating required to other med-surg units within the facility based on census needs
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Skills required: IV starts and telemetry monitoring
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be considered
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Epic EMR experience required
- Preferred: ACLS certification, charge nurse experience, and Level I trauma experience
Additional Information
- Nurses must stay on top of pain management for ortho and spine patients in this fast-paced environment
- COVID-positive patients are cared for on all units (no longer cohorted to a dedicated COVID unit) unless the patient requires ICU-level care
- No RTO (time off requests) permitted after booking — this cannot be arranged on-site
- No holiday RTO will be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have Epic experience
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
