Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Stepdown (CVSD) position requiring cardiac telemetry expertise, drip titration skills, and epicardial pacing experience.
Details
- Cardiovascular Stepdown (CVSD) unit in an acute care hospital setting
- 22-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, supported by nurse aides at a 1:15 ratio
- Patient population includes bradycardia, A-fib, SVT, CHF, CAD, NSTEMI, PVD, PE, CVA/TIA, post-operative VATS, lobectomy, and wedge resection patients, as well as patients with chest tubes, tracheotomy (no vents), TAVR, and post-op day 1 CABG
- RNs are required to titrate drips per ordered parameters; common drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, procainamide, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
- No ventilators, continuous BiPap, CPAP, or Airvo on this unit
- Monitor techs handle all telemetry strip interpretation and documentation; RNs are not required to read their own strips (Nihon Koden monitors)
- Charting is performed via Allscripts EMR
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (6:45–7:15); rotation is typically 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights, depending on staffing needs
- Weekend rotation averages every other weekend based on a 6-week schedule
- Travel RNs are added to the holiday rotation alongside permanent staff
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown or cardiac telemetry unit experience required
- Epicardial pacing and chest tube experience required
- Drip titration experience required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- Charge nurse carries a full patient assignment; nursing supervisor is on-site 24/7
- Hospitalist and intensivist are both in-house; RT is available hospital-wide 24/7
- IV therapy team handles all IV sticks
- Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift with a preceptor
- Unit uses self-scheduling via a scheduling committee; block scheduling is open for discussion
- Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are not permitted
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying; cumulative experience applies and travelers may not exceed one year of total WVU travel assignments without a 2-year break
- A driver's license copy and copies of all certifications must be submitted for consideration
