Details
- Float pool position covering Zone 1, which is centered around Colorado Springs, CO and spans a 60-mile radius — facilities include hospitals in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Cañon City

- ICU unit encompasses a combination of MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU patient populations
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1–2 depending on acuity; may be asked to flex up to 1:3; high-acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) are 1:1
- Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
- Respiratory equipment in use includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and breathing treatments
- No monitor techs on unit; RNs are expected to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- EMR system is Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- May be asked to float to other acuity levels including PCU/Stepdown and MS-Tele
- Rare on-call/standby requirement for low census situations
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- First-time travelers must have 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic EMR experience
- Must be comfortable titrating all critical drips
- A valid driver's license is required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (permanent address is verified via driver's license)
Additional Information
- RNs are expected to assist in troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs, as a dedicated RT may not always be present on the unit
- Designated charge nurses on each unit; charge nurses do not typically take patient assignments, though night shift charge nurses may take a small assignment when needed
- No nurse aides on the unit; CNAs are used for sitter needs only
- Scheduling is managed by leadership in 6-week blocks; travelers are expected to be flexible and fill scheduling gaps
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
- May be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
- 1–2 day unit orientation with a preceptor; clinicians must be on-site in Colorado for the full orientation week even if initial modules are remote
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable
- First-time travelers will be considered with 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
