Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience, travel experience, and a strong vascular and cardiac surgery background.
Details
- Mixed acuity SICU unit with the ability to float to step-down
- Heavy vascular surgery patient population, including AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, thrombectomy, pneumonectomy, and post-thoracic surgery cases
- Experience with EVAR, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and TAVR procedures relevant to this unit
- Patient ratios range from 1:2–3 for ICU-level patients and 1:4–5 for step-down acuity
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope of practice required to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is open to discussion but cannot be guaranteed
- Meditech EMR experience preferred
Requirements
- Active KY or compact RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (certificate must be obtained within 2 years of start date)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Surgical and cardiac ICU experience required
- Vascular surgery patient population experience strongly preferred
- Stroke assessment competencies required, including stroke signs/symptoms (e.g., BE-FAST) and bedside dysphagia screening
- Familiarity with current stroke guidelines and performance measures for Acute Ischemic and Hemorrhagic strokes
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a certified stroke center critical care unit preferred
- Must be able to remain within 30 minutes of the facility at all times
- Candidates must reside more than 65 miles from the facility to be eligible
- DOB, SSN, 2 professional references, and copies of AHA-issued certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientations begin every Monday
- Flu vaccine is required — no exemptions will be granted for travelers
- RTO requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis
- Drug screening will be conducted on-site on the first day of assignment
- 13-week contract
