Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Comprehensive Stroke Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and active NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Neuro ICU in a hospital setting, designated as a Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
• Stroke patients represent one of the largest patient populations on this unit
• Patient ratio is 2:1, with the potential to flex up to 3:1 during high census — candidates must be comfortable with this
• Average daily census of 11–12 patients
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12 per week)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating is required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Drains in use include EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino (ICP monitoring)
• Special equipment includes EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
• Charting via Epic (experience required); Pyxis medication dispensing system used on unit
• 13-week contract with the potential for extension

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — general ICU experience alone will not be considered
• Strong neuro critical care background is required
• Required skills: ventilator management, IV insertion, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, external ventricular drain (EVD) management, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, care of ventilated patients, isolation precautions/PPE use, and lumbar drain experience
• Arterial line management experience preferred

• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Local candidates are accepted
• Orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or 2 nights
• EKG testing must be passed prior to start
• Scrub colors are navy blue and white
• No RTO is permitted for this position — any call-offs or RTO on unit may result in contract cancellation
