Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a mixed-acuity PCU position requiring PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years and NY RN licensure.
Details
- Mixed-acuity unit serving PCU, MS Telemetry, and medical-surgical patients in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes PCU and MS Tele patients, surgical pre/post-op (ENT, general, trauma, and ortho surgery), overflow medical patients, and rare pediatric cases (travelers not assigned to pediatric patients unless experienced)
- Patient ratios are adjusted by acuity: 1:3–5 on days and weekends, 1:3–6 on nights
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to sister units: West 2, West 3, and Observation
- EMR system: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- PCU/IMC (also known as DOU/Stepdown) experience within the last 3 years required
- Required clinical skills include: telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management, post-MI care, IV and insulin drip titration, feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, renal failure management, port access, blood product administration, central and PICC line management, peripheral IV insertion and care, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management and titration, PCA, thrombolytics, CVA and seizure disorder care, substance withdrawal management, ortho trauma (including total joint replacements, traction, and peripheral nerve block catheters), mastectomy care, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- Preferred certifications: PALS
- Preferred experience: TCAR (Transcarotid Artery Revascularization)
Additional Information
- Orientation is 12 hours
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted; must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Maximum of 7 days of requested time off (RTO) for the contract
- Any time off requests must be disclosed upfront prior to consideration
- Solid color scrubs required (any color)
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
