Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Magnet, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of neuro ICU experience and a valid MO or compact RN license.
Details
- Night shift position, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:2
- 13-week contract with the option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Neuro ICU setting within a short-term acute care hospital (1,266 staffed beds)
- Patient population includes ischemic strokes (post-thrombectomy, post-tPA), hemorrhagic strokes, subdural/epidural hematomas, neuromuscular disorders, seizure disorders, CNS infections, neurotrauma (GSW, MVC, spinal cord injuries), and ICP monitoring cases
- Specialized procedures include vasoactive medication management, central line/arterial line management, ICP monitoring, CRRT, hypothermia/hyperthermia management, and spinal precautions
- Specialized equipment includes EVDs and bolts
- Charting is done in Epic
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
Requirements
- Active MO state RN license required at time of consideration; compact license also accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 2 years specifically in a neuro ICU setting
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Preferred certifications/education: TNCC, BSN, and 10 hours of stroke education
- Must pass the Relias EKG exam — interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- 10 hours of stroke education are required and will be completed during orientation (NIHSS can satisfy up to 3 hours if completed within the year; a new or renewal ACLS may also satisfy additional hours)
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may remain for a maximum of 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
- Scrub color is Navy Blue
- Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; night shift workers park at no charge in employee parking
