Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Ortho/Trauma Med/Surg position at a teaching hospital in Indiana, requiring at least 18 months of experience and an IN or Compact RN license.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Ortho/Trauma Med/Surg unit with a high-acuity, fast-paced patient population
- Approximately 20% of the patient population consists of scheduled orthopedic cases (hip and knee surgeries), with the remaining 80% being trauma patients including MVAs, falls, and penetrating injuries
- Many patients arrive post-emergent surgery or from the ICU with multiple drains and tubes
- Patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Travelers must be available to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- Travelers may be floated to different levels of care including Med/Surg, PCU, and ICU at both University and Methodist campus locations
- Charting is performed in Cerner (experience required)
- ACLS is preferred
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand (or fingerprint application submitted for IN license)
- BLS certification required (AHA or RQI accepted, must be current)
- ACLS preferred (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program required
- Strong teamwork and communication skills essential for this high-acuity environment
Additional Information
- This is an academic teaching facility — travelers must be willing to precept and/or allow students to shadow them during the assignment
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs; training and resources will be provided
- Candidates must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
- Local candidates are not accepted for this Med/Surg position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been away from the organization for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- IN RN travelers (holding only an IN state license, not compact) are not eligible for Med/Surg positions at this facility
