Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at an academic teaching facility in Indiana, requiring a minimum of 18 months of PCU/stepdown experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Night shift position, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Medical PCU with near-ICU level acuity, including management of multiple cardiac drips, stable vents, and patients with multi-organ failure, liver failure, and pulmonary conditions
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Charting performed in Cerner (experience required)
- Travelers may be expected to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at both the primary hospital and an affiliate hospital nearby
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources provided
- Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — AHA and RQI formats accepted
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown experience required
- Demonstrated skills in titrating cardiac drips, starting IVs, and interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
- Charge nurse experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- Indiana RN license holders are not eligible for this position (PCU); this restriction does not apply to Compact license holders residing outside Indiana
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- This is an academic teaching facility; all travel nurses must be willing to precept students or have students shadow them during their assignment
- Local candidates are not accepted for this PCU position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be approved
- If a contracted shift is missed, it is expected to be made up within the same pay period or will be added to the end of the contract
