Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring 2 years of ED experience and active ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital Emergency Department with 10 beds and 2 trauma bays
  • Patient population includes both pediatric and adult patients presenting with chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, lacerations, STEMI, stroke, trauma, and military patients
  • Average daily patient volume is approximately 35 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
  • Travelers are responsible for triage duties using a dedicated triage room
  • ER holds are intermixed within the department; no separate holding area
  • One safe room available for psychiatric patients with sitters on call
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • SpaceLabs monitors are used; RNs read strips and monitor patients
  • Common drips include procedural sedation, TNK, and standard ER drips
  • 12-hour evening shifts, with the primary slot running 11a–11p and additional scheduling as needed
  • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week period
  • Holiday coverage required based on departmental need
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • No floating requirements
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Idaho or Compact) required — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of emergency department nursing experience
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Valid driver's license required
  • 2 professional references required for consideration: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted

Additional Information

  • RNs are responsible for drawing labs, with phlebotomy available to assist as needed
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 hospital-wide and handles ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
  • Radiology handles patient transport except in critical situations
  • Charge RN is available 24/7 and does not take a patient assignment; a House Supervisor covers nights
  • One CNA is on staff with sitters available to call in
  • One security guard is on site 24/7, though coverage may be unavailable if the guard calls out
  • Orientation consists of 2 days
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Former permanent employees must have been away for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
