Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics position requiring at least 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency, working 12-hour night shifts at a Level II Trauma facility.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg Orthopedics unit in a Level II Trauma hospital
  • 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 6 patients
  • Patient population includes total knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder replacements as well as cervical and lumbar spine surgeries
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNAs/PCTs available at a 1:13 ratio
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment
  • Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated tele techs who read and interpret strips
  • 24/7 phlebotomy services on-site
  • Common drips include pain medications, antibiotics, and blood products; RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1830–0630
  • Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation; block scheduling not approved unless weekends only
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • Floating may be required to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU at MedSurg acuity
  • Epic EMR used in this position
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Active BLS certification required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Med/Surg or orthopedic nursing experience strongly applicable to this role
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RNs are required to take a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation and must score 90% or higher to continue the assignment
  • One day of unit-specific orientation provided
  • If placed on call, candidates must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes if called back in
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Candidates who share a vehicle or wish to be placed on the same schedule as a travel partner cannot be accommodated
  • Successful candidates are team-oriented, flexible, willing to take ownership, and have a desire to continue learning
